Newest Record in a Field Rule

Can someone clarify what it means to keep the value of the "newest" in the field rule choices?

For Example - the email address.

Am I corrrect to assume that the "newest" refers to the creation date of the contact record and the winning email address will be from the most recently created contact record which is not always the the "recent" email address? As an older record might still have a "newer" Email address recently populated..

Thanks

@NA - That is correct. The "newest" option is going to refer to the record in it's entirety not a specific field. Unless you have a field enabled to track a specific field's updates, you would have to use either the created or last modified date for the record which will not be specific to that exact field.

Thanks. Makes sense to me. And that is what I needed to confirm to explain to people. Much Obliged.
